Thanks, that sounds very interesting ... especially the fact that it will in the WWII era, which will probably allow for some interesting scenes on the layout. If you are tracking progress on a website, feel free to post the URL here.

I enjoyed your web site. I have the track plans finished for a 1:20.3 Oahu Sugar Company layout. I will model the WWII era. Wish me luck.

Yep, same here. Uploaded my Shay parts on the 22nd of April and ordered them in FUD. They have been in production ever since and I have not seen any parts yet. Today's post on the Shapeways blog mentions that they have invested in a new FUD printer, so I hope to see some results soon!

Just send you an short 'shout out' from the Shapeways forum. I have two orders in with Shapeways for FUD prints. The first one was accepted April 22 and has been "In Production" for a week at least! Man .. I know they got overwhelmed by the response for FUD but .. jumping frogs (or somesuch) .. the waiting sucks! ha.

Excellent idea! I have some parts in-route from Print a Part and you have me thinking that I may join you in offering the .stl files for free download. Of course .. that partly depends on how well they were printed. Suppose I will find that out in a few days. I also uploaded some files to Shapeways. With the .008 resolution (think its their 'Fine Detail' plastic) I think that something like stone would probably work.

Also found some interesting links of models that were based on Shay S/N 3118:
